Are you ready for 29th of November aka Black Friday?
(2 minute read)

Often regarded as the first day of the Christmas shopping season followed by Cyber Monday (2nd December), we’ve put together some last minute ideas…’cause ermmm … it’s less than 3 weeks away!

But first some stats from Paymark.co.nz, just in case you’re not as excited as we are!

Last year, Kiwis spent $442 million over the Black Friday weekend up 85% from the previous year – did you get a piece of that?

On Friday alone, New Zealanders spent $69.7m at non-food retail shops, an increase of 54% on a typical Friday, surpassing the $68m spent on Boxing Day last year.

Cyber Monday wasn’t too shabby either! For the Retail sector only – Paymark processed $2.5 million through ecommerce channels for core non-food retail shops, up 34.7% on the previous Monday and up 63.4% on the same Monday last year.

Black Friday is now on par with Boxing Day in terms of the magnitude of spending so let’s get ready!

TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS/PROSPECTS
Oh hello Sherlock! Hey, might sound obvious but Black Friday is reasonably new in NZ so hit them up a week or so prior and tease them with some wicked deals.

Encourage wish-listing and build a specific deal around their lists. Or drive foot traffic by offering in-store only promotions.

PLAN YOUR DEALS
If you’re happy to discount everything then that’s cool. However, this might be an opportunity to get rid of the inventory that’s been sitting around taking up precious shelf space.

Plan Your Homepage: is it obvious you’re running a Black Friday sale? Is it easy to see everything that is discounted? Create a dedicated Black Friday section or category.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT CYBER MONDAY
That’s right, it’s not just one day and a lot of businesses lower their prices throughout the whole weekend. So back to #2 – plan those deals!

Perhaps some ‘day specific’ offers, show a countdown ticker or available stock. Urgency is the name of the game so let’s encourage some big time FOMO (fear of missing out)!

SEARCH, SEARCH AND SEARCH!
While you should be utilising your email database, shoppers will be online searching for the best deals.

Do you have a specific Black Friday Google Shopping campaign ready to go? And a savvy remarketing campaign to follow up with?
